Ariana Grande has been preparing for the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked and has a new bright blonde ponytail to prove it. She’s set to star as Glinda, the famous blonde Good Witch of the North, and Grande just shared a selfie showing that she ditched her signature brunette tresses in favor of lighter strands. She's tried out a plethora of lighter hair colors before, including several forays into platinum blonde and a set of ombré hair extensions that blended her dark hair with a cool blonde. She also stuck to a pale blonde color during most of her Sweetener era before going dark again for Thank U, Next.

According to her Instagram feed, the "Side To Side" singer has been rocking the bright platinum hue since Halloween when she posted a pic with boyfriend Mac Miller. While the snapshot only revealed the top half of her face and head, it showed just enough to debut the new, bright color and short, fringe bangs. This past Monday, the singer followed up with two new posts proving that the new ‘do wasn’t just a Halloween costume as the pics show Grande rocking her super long signature ponytail, but this time in the new hue. The model debuted a bleach blonde pixie cut at the FRAME event April 4. Historically, Glinda the Good Witch — a role made famous by Kristen Chenoweth — has been played by actors with blonde hair. The former “Voice” coach is technically wearing a set of pearl earrings in the pic, but the star of the photo is Grande’s newly ash-blond hair. The first burst of scent from first spray is definitely raspberry, followed by a strong floral from the rose and lily middle notes. With such an intricate marriage of floral, fruity and gourmand scents, it makes it pretty universal to most people’s tastes.

In keeping with her current pastel aesthetic, Grande also skipped her beloved bold, winged liner in favor of shimmery, holographic pink and white shadow across her lids and lush lashes, blonde brows, and a glossy lip. Grande also applied a similar shimmery highlight to the tip of her nose to really glow on camera. She did, however, stick to her fave French manicure, which you can see as she goes through the new holiday products. Ariana kept things simple with a sleek poker straight ponytail in her natural light brown shade. Ariana switched up her usual noughties aesthetic for something even more old school, opting for big, bouncy caramel curls that had a distinctly retro twist.

To be fair, this could be another blonde wig moment, but based on the color of her baby hairs and the hair at the nape of her neck, this seems legit. Grande may have given us a sneak peek at her Glinda transformation over the summer when she shared a throwback picture of herself with icy white-blonde hair from 2017 on Instagram Stories. Her most prominent accessory, however, was her white cap with the Wimbledon logo sewn in its center. Although she’s been seen with her hair down here and there, this may be our best photo of what her tresses look like IRL since recently going blonde. She initially dyed her hair blonde in late 2022 to prepare for her role as Glinda in the film adaptation of Wicked—set to premiere in 2024—but has always posted photos with her signature high ponytail or half-up-half-down hairdo. While her hat is covering the top portion of her hairdo, the bottom portion flows way past her chest in gorgeous flippy waves that we haven't yet seen on the star.

Presumably that actual thing is now going to come with an actual blonde-wig-featuring video.

Based on the Broadway musical of the same name by Stephen Schwartz, Wicked follows two magical enemies-turned-best friends played by Grande and Erivo. The project will be split into two separate films, the first of which is slated to hit theaters in December 2024.
